UC WCA timeframe was created by Clarebear
Hi everyone
My daughter has learning disabilities, complex needs, OCD, chronic anxiety & other additional needs. I applied for UC for her as our GP gave her Fit Notes. The claim went through & I was sent a UC50 to complete re her health & capability 2 week's after her claim. I completed the form & sent it back with every piece of evidence I've accumulated since she was a baby as her conditions are life long. To date I haven't heard a thing & it's been 3 months. I'm her appointee because she has lack of understanding & communication & when we've attended the Jobcentre, the staff have been good. My daughter sits with her big headphones on absorbed in her switch & oblivious to what's going on around her. Will they deal with me for her WCA? How much of a backlog is there for WCA?
Thank you.

Hi Clarebear

Thank you for your question, unfortunately it is like asking how long is a piece of string.

On the forum we hear from members across the regions where the time varies and we cannot give an accurate prediction, as you rightly stated there is a backlog.

For some members it has been quite quick, for others it is taking ages. May be we should run a table where members tell us how long it takes in there region to see which regions are quick and which are slow.

Great minds and all that. I was only thinking that it would be useful to know the time differences between the different regions re decisions. Sue

Hi SUE C C

We do get asked this question quite a lot on the forum, unfortunately I am no mystic Meg ;)

Hi Clarebear, I am in a very similar situation - except we put our application in February and returned the UC50 in early March - so 5 months on we are still waiting. We live in Surrey near Woking. I did hear of someone who waited 10 months. That is longest I heard of personally but who knows...

I always take my daughter with me to the appointments and then end up doing the talking - they have never objected to this - it is usually fairly obvious to them that my daughter is not going to be able to answer very well for herself. But I have no idea whether they will let me do this when they get to the WCA.

Hi Teddy
The staff at Jobcentre have been great & I always do the talking, mainly because my daughter sits there with big noise cancelling headphones on & absorbed in her Switch to keep her calm & doesn't acknowledge them at all. I'm not sure they'll accept that at the WCA although if they ask her anything she just looks at me panic stricken & starts scratching at her arms & face until they bleed & ticcing so that should be interesting. At her assessment for PIP which was at home, she got so stressed she threw her tangle toy at the assessor who was being very calm & pleasant. It just shocks me that we've had no acknowledgement of receipt of the form. I know how desperately short staffed & overworked they are but generic emails wouldn't hurt.
