Pip delays and benefit cap. was created by Maria Hagen
Hi,
Last year I was informed of my PIP review and subsequently submitted my forms and evidence. My condition has worsened, which my evidence supported. I was told that given the worsened state of my health the case handler had referred it go for an assessment. It has sat in the queue for IAS since. The worry of the cost of living, and having the situation up in the air,has caused me physical pain as my condition is made worse by stress.
Following some advice given on the forum, I contacted my MP, who then contacted PIP on my behalf. We received a response about a month later. The response was just an acknowledgement of all the above and just them saying that Covid was affecting IAS and they would get to me at some time in the future. That I would not lose my benefits and that there was a new text message service which will tell people that their benefits have been extended.
My concern now is, if they take another year. What will be the affect on my benefits if I am given the higher group on both mobility and living. I am not clear if it would lose me housing benefit? Also what is the maximum savings amount you can have? I am in receipt of Housing benefit, ESA support group enhanced disability, severe disability premium, and at present daily living lower amount. As I said I should be in receipt of higher on that and mobility.
Thanks for taking the time to read.

Hi Maria
Thank you for your post, which raises a number of interesting questions but unfortunately we cannot give you an answer as we do not have all the relevant information.
I will try and set out what happens generically.
As you were sent a review form to complete and you had not requested a change in circumstances then if you are awarded the enhanced PIP for both components then your PIP will change from the date of the decision not the date DWP received the forms.
If you had requested a change of circumstances, then your claim if successful would be backdated to the date of the phone call.
If you are already receiving full HB then it will make no difference to your claim if you were awarded enhanced PIP.
The maximum savings you can have is £16k.
Most means-tested benefits are only paid to people with less than £16,000 in savings (tax credits and the guarantee element of Pension Credit are not affected by this rule).
If you (and your partner) are under Pension Credit age and have total capital over £6,000 then the government assumes you receive £1 per week for every £250 of capital you have above £6,000, this is called Tariff Income.
If you are over Pension Credit age the government assumes you receive £1 per week for every £500 of capital you have above £10,000.

PIP does not count as income for any means tested benefits. Irrespective of Award.
