PIP deadline for written questions this week for partner who has ASD, ADHD, CFS and hypermobility disorder - sending on Tuesday afternoon, thanks for helping and apologies for marking as urgent we are just really struggling with answering all the questions even with the guide provided:

1.) Definitely wont all fit all of the explanations about conditions on the regular pages provided - can partner just write, "See stapled page at back labelled "Question 3[x]" for answer"?

2.) Partner works for two days a week as a housekeepr and has to drive the same route each way. First problem is this makes it very difficult to argue she has mobility points. Reason she can drive safely is because of her ADHD medication. So we have phrased it she can drive safely with the medication but she just cant take her ADHD medication every day because she cant tolerate the side effects every day and absolutely must have recovery days otherwise she is at risk of ASD meltdown and extreme fatigue and pain. Then on recovery days she has tons of issues and being able to walk 150 m would be problematic. Any comments on that approach or things to add? (obv more eloquent than that but you get my drift).
What other car things or driving things should she put at separate activities and at at additional information?

3.) As for her job same thing her ADHD medication makes a temporary respite for her to do her physical job but causes seriously bad recovery days for most of the week and actually she is not fit to do this job really and she should probably be doing something else much less physical but doesnt have the option of changing at this point. Any advice here? Also can say her employer complains she takes too long to do her job.

4.) From what date in the claim process do they pay your PIP claim to if it is successful?

5.) How long can the process take i.e. assessment, then decision, then MR, then tribunal date, then final decision etc?

Hi tadpolefarm. Just on your Q1. Yes do that, only don't staple if you can avoid it. It's preferable to punch it all and use a treasury tag or string/wool/ribbon tied in an easy-to-untie bow or similar. because everything is scanned using an auto-feed machine. So not having staples and the risk of ripping the paper if an overworked subcontract person struggles to get the staple out.
Be sure every extra sheet has name, nat. ins No. and "Page x of y" along the top.
Best wishes,
Denby [Mum to a CFS and hypermobile person, neurodiverse myself]

Hi tadpolefarm

1) Most people can't put all their information on the form. They are quite accustomed to additional pages, but they do ask you not to staple them. Better to make a hole and attach a string to them.

2) There are two questions that refer to mobility and I would re-read the advice in the guide to PIP claims and reviews page 8-, 81. I can't tell you what you should say here, because I don't know your partner. However, the assessors are supposed to take a holistic approach to what they can do - so it's not just about a claimant's ability to drive. Could your partner walk - from what you've said so because of their CFS and ASD (possibly becoming overwhelmed by the noise etc). Read that information again and write in that context. Also, look how exhausted your partner is, and so you should question whether they could reliably do this activity the majority of times. Assessors often have a dim view of people driving - even though it is clearly allowed under the law - but just make sure that you emphasise the difficulties and the fact that driving is limited.

Be aware that during an assessment, an assessor will be asking how much walking your partner does for their job - and so you must be ready for that and emphasise the impact again on the following days and not being able to take the medication. They might also ask (in an assessment if the medication is prescribed daily).

3. Working does not preclude someone from being awarded PIP, but you just need to ensure that you have answered all the questions citing your partner's difficulties and the support they need for their daily care and mobility. You can mention that work doesn't think that they work fast enough (but the assessor will probably ignore that information).

4. From the date you started your claim

5. It's impossible to say because times vary from one claimant to another. If you had to go through the whole process as you state it would be in excess of a year.

Hello tadpolefarm

It would seem that from what you have described of your partners difficulties and how she copes, have you supplied a supporting letter for her application for PIP? You seem eminently suited to do so and it will do no harm. Good luck.

Hi, I suggest you write the form in 'third person' ie, 'she does' she cannot' etc. This helps get it through their skull that 'she,' because writing is exhausting with hypermobile hands plus 'she' cannot concentrate due to ADHD etc, that 'she' did not write their own form but you did it for her.
Best,
Denby
