PIP/ESA Review help please. was created by Tracy Fairchild
Hello to all. I hope everyone is as well as can be. I was hoping that someone could advise me please. My husband PIP is due in a few months, and both our ESA's at any time, although we are both not too far off retirement, so for ESA I was wondering if you think they will bother with is, being as it stops at retirement?

However, when it comes to my husbands PIP, we are somewhat confused, we know that it will be a review, but will he be sent the smaller review form to fill out, or will it be done via a telephone consultation, or even both? My husband suffers from anxiety (just one of several health problems) and just cannot cope with telephone calls, his mind just goes blank, amongst other things, so that is why he really wants it to be via the form. So I would be extremely grateful if someone could let me know how DWP are doing things at present please.

I would be very grateful for any help given. Thank you. All the best to everyone.

Hi TracyFairchild

ESA - have quite a backlog they are dealing with. I would be surprised if you received review forms from the DWP so close to retirement - but one can never be 100% sure of these things.

PIP - if your husband hasn't had a review before, the review form is smaller than the original PIP2 form, which claimants fill in to start with. Once the review form is returned to the DWP, a decision is made whether or not he needs a telephone or face-to-face assessment. A very small number of paper-based assessments are done, and you can request this when you send back the form - give the reasons you have done below and use the term 'overwhelming psychological distress' because of his anxiety. Put this on a separate page. They don't have to agree to a paper-based decision, but if they don't, you can appeal. He's unlikely to be asked for a face-to-face assessment as they aren't doing very many of these. BIS
