Question re ESA Support Group was created by Faith
Hello,
I last applied for ESA in 2016. Last year I phoned the help-line and was told that the review of my claim has been delayed by covid but that I will have to reapply this year. I'm presently in the Support Group because "engagement in social contact is always precluded...". I'm wondering if (since I was last assessed in 2016) there have been any changes concerning this qualifier? For example, can the inability to engage in social contact still lead to being placed in the Support Group? Also, have there been any changes in how the DWP defines "engagement in social contact is always precluded..." or how they determine if someone fits that descriptor?
Many thanks, in advance, for any update or info about this

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Faith
ESA is an indefinite award with scheduled reassessment based on the Prognosis Date completed by the assessor in their report, so your existing ESA award continues in payment until a new Decision is made.
To answer your question you need to read our up dated guide; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/esa

Hi Gary,
Thanks for your reply. Sorry for my questions. Because of my illness, my brain does not work properly so I find the guide overwhelming and hard to navigate and understand. That's why I asked my questions.
Apologies,
Faith

Hi Faith
There is no need to apologise. The guides can be very daunting as they are large and cover everything.
The guides do have an index at the beginning, the best way of reading the guides is to do it in stages, so in answer to your original question, look at our new guide, Sept edition from page 14 to page 26.

Faith, I've answered your question in another thread. There's a chance that your Work Capability Assessment date has been extended due to backlogs in the system.

Thanks Gary. I have read pages 14-27 and also 99-102 and can't see any changes regarding engagement in social contact.
Cheers,
Faith
