PIP award and back dating was created by Dan Mason
Hi all.
First time poster on here; what a fantastic website with so much helpful information.
I got a text yesterday to say that my PIP has been awarded, so I am expecting the letter to confirm what I have been awarded over the next week or two.
I had a couple of questions about backdating. I have read online that PIP is backdated to when you make your claim. Firstly, is that right? And secondly, what is classed as 'making tour claim'? Is it the when you submit your original claim (i.e. the form to get the ball rolling which is just personal information), or is it when you have sent in the more substantial form which explains how your condition affects you?
This is quite important in my case as I sent the first form in last October, DWP lost it, and so I didn't actually get the second form until May.
Any help/advice would be great.
Thanks v much.

Hi Dan,
Welcome to B&W! I'm glad that you have found our website helpful.
PIP shoukd get backdated to the date of claim.(This is for new claims -if you were previously on DLA this might be the last date of your DLA or the decision date for PIP.)
The date of claim is the initial phone call which then initiates sending out of the form. It would appear that your date of claim was October, or perhaps a week or two previously if you phoned before then. See what happens with the date. If this is not consistent with October then I would appeal, but report here and either myself or one of the other Mods maybe able to help further.

Thank you for replying. I will see what the letter says - I requested the initial form via a letter but it was definitely October time, so I’ll double check and post back on here when I get the letter.
