Contribution ESA and claiming Carers Allowance possible? was created by Twinkle
Hi,
Maybe someone could help me with this one please. I've done Mr google but still confused.
I am in receipt of contribution ESA and in the support group. My question is can I claim Carers Allowance for my son - he does not receive SDP. I'm reading different answers on this via the internet, some say will receive carers premium and some say not entitled at all. Also I receive income from a rental property would this be an issue.
Just need clarification if possible.

If you are only entitled to legacy Contribution Based ESA or New Style ESA then Carers Allowance is considered to be an overlapping benefit with the ESA.
You can make a claim for CA but only the higher of your ESA (normally) or the CA would be payable and no Carers Premium would be paid.
If you are also entitled to legacy Income Related ESA then the Premium would be paid but your post suggests that you are not as you would already be receiving the Enhanced Disability Premium for being in the SG if you were, referred to as the Disability Income Guarantee on the ESA paperwork.
