Pip telephone call was created by Chris Hill
Hi
So out of the blue yesterday I had a phone call from the pip assessors to ask me a few questions.I suffer from CMT(Charcot Marie tooth)and acoustic neuroma and my mobility issues are the main factor in my claim.I wasn’t expecting the call and I felt a bit flustered with some of the answers I gave and it isn’t the best time for me at the moment as I lost my dad a few weeks ago and the call I had was the day after his funeral.the lady kept asking me how far I could walk and I kept explaining to her that although I can walk more than 200 metres I am in pain doing so and so that was why I put on the form I couldn’t walk more than 20m.I feel that because of saying that that she will put down I can walk more than 20m and I’ll get awarded nothing!I sent in evidence from my consultants and my next step is surgery but just feel like I’ve scuppered any chance of getting anything.just getting stressed out about it all really and it just angers me the way they treat us as if we are frauds!!

Hi Chris

I am disturbed to hear that you had a phone call like this. You are not alone in suddenly receiving a call, but it should have been explained to you exactly why they were calling. Was this an assessment or not? You should be given five days' notice if it was an assessment. If this was an assessment, a report will be written. You could phone and ask for a copy of the report (PA4) today or on Monday.

I wish I could reassure you about the distance issue, but I can't. You'll only know the interpretation when you get hold of the assessor's report.

You can also complain about being called out of the blue.

no i hadn't been given any times or dates for an assesment so i think they were ringing up to clarify a few things and then do a papper based assesment.they just kept asking me the same things about my mobility but worded differently.you know how far can you walk, what distance would you say you can walk on a good day!the call went on for 30 mins or so.she said that she would type up the report and if i dont hear back from DWP within 8 weeks then to give them a call.

Hi Chris

Okay - if she's doing a paper-based assessment, then you should still be able to ask for a copy of the report - It's a PA3. You don't have to wait eight weeks for this and you should be able to have a copy before the decision comes out. Be aware that some people have been told recently when they try and get hold of a paper-based report they are told there isn't one and are told the decision was made by looking at their previous record.
