Helping a neighbour with her PIP bother.

Hii all,

I only just found out about this very recently.

To cut a long story short: one of my neighbours has been getting rather stresed out re her PIP renewal. She sent her form form in late last year and the DWP received it on the 15th of December last year.

Such was her state of mind, (stress levels etc) l spoke to the DWP on her behalf the other day.

It was a case of DWP v ATOS: one blaming the other over the timescale of response, or lack of it in her case.

I was finally told by the call handler after venting on her behalf, that renewals can go on for months if not YEARS! and her award, which ends in October, would continue until a decision had been made, ie date for an assessment.

Now, being a bit rusty, regarding the procedures, this to me sounds like total poppycock.

Finally, surely she should have received an extension letter at least for her current award?

Any feedback would be appreciated (even if it's a good joke) as it would make more sense than this letest fiasco.

Kind regards,

Phrank.

Hi phrank,
I think it's a bit hit and miss as to whether you get an actual extension letter or just get continued payments. I guess you could write a letter if complaint on behalf of your neighbour, she could sign it, with a comment that it had been written on her behalf as she is too stressed.
Say that the lack of uncertainty and/or lack of extension letter is causing increasing anxiety etc. The letter my not achieve anything, but hopefully the case might get expedited, or alternatively you'll get the extension letter. Not saying it will will, but it might, so its worth a try.

Good to see you back, phrank. I thought it might not be too long for your comeback!

Hi LL26,

Thanks for your response.

Well, I've not been away as such; the forum summer shutdown, plus unexpected health problems have got me down a bit but thanks for the welcome back!.

I will speak to my neighbour and see what she intends to do.

Kind regards,

Phrank.
