Hello, I hope you are well. I am very worried and confused about the news story published by Benefits and Work about the 12-month-delay in PIP renewal demands (as reported on Rightnet). By “renewal demand”, I mean people who are receiving PIP who then receive a pile of documents or other letter from the DWP demanding that they must again apply to renew their PIP and who will therefore very likely face a gruelling reassessment. Even people with incurable and unlikely ever to change disabilities.

1. Is it correct, as commented by a B&W member in the news section, that anyone who received their current award as a result of an interaction with an external appeals service will not have their renewal delayed? Is that all such people including those who had their award points increased by a tribunal?

2. Are PIP claimants most usually still being sent renewal demands 12 months prior to their PIP end-dates?

3. Is there any public information about what proportion of PIP claimants are being told that their renewal dates are being delayed? Is it more or less than half?

I need to know as My PIP end date is in 2024 and I would like to know if I need to build a portfolio of evidence now or leave it until next year. I am sure a lot of other PIP claimants would like any further clarification you can possibly provide on this issue of renewal delays.

Thank you and take care, Porridge x

1. I am not sure that we have seen any prioritisation for awards made by a Tribunal, perhaps other members would care to comment. Whilst the DWP cannot revise a Decision made by a Tribunal they can supersede such a Decision, this certainly happened during the lockdowns.

2. Lead time had dropped to six months before the lockdowns we are now seeing 12 months again being the norm but shorter times are still happening.

3. My impression, I stress this is just my view albeit gleaned from multiple sources, is that the number is significantly north of 50%, the fact that the DWP has just increased extensions from three months to one year would suggest that queues are getting longer, not shorter.

Remember, evidence still has value even if it is older than you wish at the very least it creates a marker of your health and limitations at that point in time.

I'm afraid it is just temporary, however, I do monitor the forum and if I think I can help I will post.
