I submitted my PIP Review form some 2 months ago and on calling today was told it is in a long queue for an assessor to look at it. Fair enough I expected that. I have a question though. As I did 5 years ago when first assessed I sent a lengthy letter of some 20 pages detailing my rather complex medical issues as the form never has enough room. I marked each page with name NI Number D.O.B. etc My question is this. I understand everything you send gets scanned onto DWP system on arrival. I understand ALL medical evidence relevant to the claim is then sent to the medical assessor be it Capita Atos or whoever if the DM can't make a decision without an assessment. Does the DWP have to send the health care assessor the additional sheets I sent? I ask this as reading through the medical report I requested 5 years ago pertinent to my previous award, the assessor mentions that I asked him, at the face to face medical if he had received all the paperwork I sent, as there seemed to be some gaps in his knowledge of my disability issues.
He replied that he had indeed spent 2 hours reading some 40 odd pages of evidence but the list he gave the DM didn't seem to add up to the amount of correspondence I sent. it was academic as I received what I expected and what I believe was a fair award, so no harm done. But it set me thinking. Is it incumbent on DWP to send everything I submitted to the health care assessor? I was sure to make mention in the actual form that I was sending x amount of consultant letters x amount of NHS evidence etc and x amount of my own submissions explaining matters, so the actual PIP form they receive will at least alert the health assessor to the fact there should be a letter with my own submissions in his bundle as it were. Can I be sure the PIP people at DWP have sent everything and if not how can I go about requesting that they do so?

Hi micksville

DWP should send all the paperwork you send in to the Healthcare Assessor but you can never be sure for certain, if you ask for a copy of the assessors report, (PA4) the report should name all the supporting documents used in your assessment.

Paperwork can go missing, remember DWP receives thousands of letters everyday, which is why we advise claimants to write their name and National Insurance number on each page just in case they go astray.

It would be interesting to know what % of mail does go missing.

Hi micksville

This is only one person but I am an unpaid carer for my friend and when I sent off his PIP renewal form I sent a *lot* of medical evidence and additional sheets for answering the form questions. The nurse that phoned my friend had definitely read it as she referenced some details from it while talking to him. (She was also very sympathetic and understanding with him.) I hope that is a little bit of a reassurance that it's possible to get a healthcare professional that reads everything.
