I am a fulltime carer for my Mother and we live in the same property. She has been awarded the lower rate of Attendance Allowance. I am applying to be disregarded from paying council tax but the application form states that she has to be awarded the HIGHER rate for my council tax carer's disregard to be accepted. I have researched this and it looks like many councils accept the lower rate. So my question is: Can I apply for Carer's council tax disregard if my Mother has been awarded ANY rate of Attendance Allowance?
I've checked with my local council and any rate of AA is accepted, however, these are rules set by each council so there could be variation, all I can advise is that you look on your own LA's web site.
The information was labelled as "Council Tax: disregard categories" on my LA's site.
