PIP Award Review - How Your Disability Affects You was created by robby
Hi, just wondering if you could please offer me some advice on the following? I have just received a How Your Disability Affects You form from the DWP regarding my PIP. My last PIP award dates back to January 2020 and this new form seems to ask me about changes to my health conditions now and not to mention or send them anything to do with my original claim sent in during January 2020 as they already have this information. Can i assume that they only want me to describe how i am doing now and to not to discuss my health issues i have already told them about? In some cases i feel as though i could only put down no change in answer to some questions and this seems wrong to me. Also, this form seems to be a lot shorter than my original claim form, why is this? Finally, i have around three weeks to sent this form back to the DWP and as i will be receiving my state pension in the next few days as I will be 66 years old, will this affect my claim for PIP? Looking at this form, the DWP only seems to want me to send in new information regarding any recent changes to my condition, why is this? Hope you can offer me some advice and guidance with this, because my gut instinct is to repeat everything I said and gave them everything as with my last form sent in during January 2020.
Regards,
Rob.

Hi rob,
Forms often change so don't worry about that!
The common consensus is you can tick 'no change' if this is correct but then add Eg I still need help to cook and prepare a simple meal, as I am unable to grip a knife due to very poor grip due to arthritis...
I still need to use a raised toilet seat in order to safely lower myself onto the toilet as my legs often give way due to nerve problems from sciatica etc...
Fully explain the continuing problem. Use spare pages (always with full name and NI number clearly marked.)
Remember that last time even though you achieved benefit, you may not have been awarded points for everything you claimed for. Maybe because DWP disagreed or perhaps because there wasn't enough evidence. If you don't include an explanation with 'no change' ' if this was a no point score it is highly likely it will remain one as DWP may simply cross reference the previous points. If so make it clear that no points ( or insufficient points) were awarded and this was incorrect.
As you are now rapidly approaching pension age it is really important to make sure you get the correct benefit level going forward. After pension age you can upgrade your daily living award to enhanced or even to a standard level from nil if you just have a mobility award. However mobility can not be upgraded any further when you reach pension age. This means whatever mobility award you get now, ( or for any Mandatory Reconsideration and or subsequent appeal based solely on this cutrent review,) you will remain at this level. Mobility can no longer be upgraded or awarded after this time. Think carefully about your mobility needs - make sure you get this right! Subject to continuing disability and compliance with general rules regarding PIP there is no reason why you shouldn't continue to receive PIP well past pension age.
I assume that you have actually applied for your state pension, as this won't get paid automatically.
Good luck with the review.
I hope this helps.

Hi,
thank you for your very kind email. When i last filled in a PIP form around 3 years ago, i sent in a lot of information. Do i still need to send in all of this information again or do i take it for granted that the DWP will still have this information and will use that information and what i send in now to help work out my award? I also live close to a benefits help line called fightback4justice - are they recommended? Just a thought if things get tight, in the past i have spend day and nights sweating and worrying over every word i have written down and then worried myself sick about it all. Thank you for all your help and advice over the years, i have just signed up for my 10th year with you. Rob.

Hi robby
Thank you for renewing your membership.
If you kept a copy of your old PIP form then I would use that as a template.
If your medication has changed then use your new prescription list and send in a copy, if your medication has not changed send in your lates prescription list.
Do not take anything for granted concerning the DWP, send any new supporting documents, if your condition has not changed and you have no new supporting documents, then send in copies of your old supporting documents providing they are still relevant to your condition(s).
I have not heard of fightback4justice, so I am unable to comment. There might be some forum members who have heard of them.
