REVIEW FORM, please help with clarification. was created by CATHYCOMEHOME
I am appointee for my relative. I have received a PIP Award Review form, for the first time. I am confused as on the review form, there are a couple of descriptors that I don't recognize, from the previous big PIP form (or PIP application 3 years ago).
Although, my relative was awarded points for 'Mixing with other people' on the previous application, I do not recognize it was worded as such, I remember 'Engaging with others 'Face to face', do they both mean the same thing?
I also note on the PIP Award Review there is a Queston 7. Speaking to people, hearing and understanding what they say and being understood. The previous Big PIP application question was 'Communicating Verbally', do they both mean the same?
I would really appreciate this clarification. Thank in you in anticipation.

Hi CATHYCOMEHOME ,
Short answer to both questions is YES.
For some inexplicable reason, DWP either won't name the question headings the same as the descriptor titles, and then go an change the incorrect titles to something else!
Mixing with others is the same as engaging face to face with other people. Has to be in person, not over the phone. Saying hello back to the lady in the till at Sainsburys is probably not 'engaging' nor is talking to the GP.
Think about where you go out/if you go out and socialise. Why don't you go out and meet people? Do you make friends, can you interact appropriately and understand body language? What sort of support do you need?
Communicating verbally is correct. It requires both hearing and understanding what is being said, as well as being able to speak back appropriately, so people can understand you. Hearing loss, speech impediments, conditions such as autism, or other conditions where processing words is difficult may all be relevant.
Please have a look at the members guides if you need anymore information.
Explain the health problem, give examples of what happens when things go wrong, think about the effects of performing these activities.
As with all PIP activities- think about
Safety
Acceptable standard
Reasonable time
Repetition across the whole day as many times as reasonably required
If your relative can't fulfil all 4 of these criteria they should score points.
Think about the pattern for the majority of days?
I hope this helps.
Good luck with the form.
