hello
I am on IR ESA (support group). I also receive housing benefit and a council tax benefit reduction. Online calculators suggested I would be better off on UC. I spoke who a CAB advisor online who confirmed it.
So today I started the UC application process and had a question about one of the fields. So I contacted CAB again and we got talking and it turns out that I might have to go through another medical assessment. I was led to believe that my status would get automatically transferred (my ESA award doesn't run out till 2024).
I asked how to cancel the application (due to personal circumstances, I am in no position to be going through the assessment). I was told it's too late. That the moment I clicked "start UC application", I closed all my legacy benefit claims. Is that correct?
But then why, now that I completed all my "to-do tasks" am I asked to confirm all the info to submit my UC claim? Surely, the legacy benefits shouldn't be closed until I submit a UC claim, which I haven't done yet.

I'm afraid, once you have clicked the "start UC application" button then you are committed to making a claim for UC and for any legacy benefits to be transferred and the claims closed.
However, there is good news. Your current ESA award will be transferred without reassessment, although once the process is complete the DWP could start the review process but this would be very unusual if you are not expecting your current award to be reviewed before 2024.
