Pre-preparing food for PIP Activity 1

I tried to do a search but couldn't find anything so apologies if asked before.

My neice has fibromyalgia as well as other health problems, and she has asked me to help her with her PIP form. I don't have specialist knowledge! She often pre-prepares an evening meal in the morning as she knows that when she gets home from work, she will be in so much pain that she is not able to stand, or sit, to chop veges and cook. Her husband has to cook the spuds or rice and plate up. This happens on about 4 to 5 nights a week.

Would she be considered unable to prepare food or is pre-preparing it earlier in the day mean she would not score any points?

Hope the above makes sense! Any clarity would be extremely gratefully received, as always.

Take care.

The fact that she can prepare the ingredients earlier in the day will almost certainly count against her.

There is no requirement for the preparation and the cooking to happen immediately one after the other, the fact that they separate the two several days a week shows that any restrictions such as deterioration of the prepared food are not applicable.

Okay many thanks for that. I wasn't sure but that makes more sense because she can chop vegetables and prepare a meal, but not at the appropriate time of day when most people would be preparing a meal.

I take it that if she was not able to prepare a meal earlier in the day, because perhaps she is bedridden, and her husband had to prepare and cook a meal in the evening, that she would score points for being unable to do it.

Many thanks for clarification. Very confoosing..... !! :-)

Hi WS

As Gordon has said, the fact that she can prepare the meal earlier in the day would count against her. You say that it's not an "appropriate time of day," but there are many people who might partially prepare a meal before they go to work just to speed up the process when they get home. I know she comes home exhausted and in pain, but they will take it that she has sensibly organised her life to still be able to do the preparation. From what you say, she can do this the majority of the time.

Yes, it would be different if she was bedridden, but that would still have to be the case for the majority of days.
