Pip review form query. was created by suexx
Hi,
Im filling out my pip review form, but struggling a bit, as i cant fit the info i need to write in the boxes.
I have widespread arthritis, as one of my problems, and it affects me in different ways in the same daily living activity. Eg. In the preparing food, my hand arthritis stops me from carrying kettles and pans, back and hip arthritis stops me from standing for long. Weak grip stops me from cutting food and peeling veg etc.
Do i write a seperate sheet of paper explaining I have arthritis in neck, back, hips, etc, and how each of them affects me, in seperate ways with the same daily living activities. Then on the box on the form say I have great difficulty preparing food due to my hand, back, neck arthritis? Whichever is applicable, and then refer them to the fuller explanation on seperate sheet of paper?
Or do i just put i have great difficulty preparing food, due to weak grip, painful hips, carrying pans and put the full explanation of all the seperate problems on the actual form under that section?
Also on the form in general, is it better just putting short answers about what i can and cant do, or answers in full? I just wonder if i put too much info on the form, will they get fed up reading it?
Kind regards

Hi suexx ,
My theory about filling PIP forms us to much as much explanation as you can on each question and give examples of what goes wrong when you can't do dmsomethibg eg you fall over in the bathroom without help, you burn yourself or have food poisoning if cooking etc etc. Don't assume that because you have written an essay on one section that DWP will 'connect the dots' and think it applies to all sections. I often ending repeating myself.Eg 'Due to weak muscles caused by arthritis I am unable to a use a knife safely... due to weak muscles I need help to get into the bath..."
Repeat as you need to. Use separate pages clearly identified with your name and NI number, as well as the question number. Make sure the form says see extra page 4 etc.
Too little info is almost certainly going to result in refusal or too small an award. If you have a full form with loads of examples whilst I can't guarantee that you will get the correct award, it is much more probable.
Remember to address the following 4 criteria - you need satisfy all otherwise you shoukd get points
Safety
Reasonable time
Repetition
Acceptable standard
If you injure yourself or could injured self this won't be safe
Acceptable standard can comprise significant pain, and also if you soill things etc when eating or cooking this is unlikely to be acceptable .
If you fill out the form and extra pages yourself please state that this took a long time and was painful. If you have written a lot and complain of poor grip, DWP might wonder how you could write so much...or get someone else to be a scribe, and then say eg a friend wrote thus as I am unable to hold a pen for any length of time etc
Good luck

Hi LL26,
Thank you so much for your reply. I just thought with the pip review form, you may not need to write as much info as the original pip form, but i will write as much as possible. As you say, too much is better than too little.

I have typed out the form, over 4 weeks, using voice recognition as well. I had informed them that i cant write out the form, because of pain and poor grip, and I have an extension.

Yes i just feel that im repeating myself so much, on each section that i feel like im waffling on, but guess many people feel the same. We forget how much pain and struggle we all go through on a daily basis, and writing it down makes you realise how bad things are.
Im going to send in examples of accidents, and also a daily diary, so hopefully this will help.
Kind regards
