First PIP Claim was created by Family man!
Made my first PIP claim by phone call on 22nd Aug 2022.
About a week later PIP claim form and booklet arrived in the post.
Took me a week to gather information and submitted it with copies of some medical evidence that I had at home.
Got a text from DWP on the 8th September they had received my form and evidence. On the 13th September received another text saying I need to be available for a consultation by phone. Letter arrived that this will take place on the 14th October by Capita.
I wasn’t offered the option to have a copy of the recording but by right you can record the phone assessment which I did using my other phone.
I stated to the health professional that I had other medical evidence to submit and the HP said it would all be reviewed with the claim and sent to DWP.
The phone assessment took just over an hour. The PH stated she would do a formal report with all the evidence and the information gathered at the assessment to score against the descriptors.
I sent more medical evidence on 20th October which included hospital reports of all my disabilities from when they started to the most recent ones, dates of physio visits and number of sessions. Plus I kept a daily diary detailing the help I needed from family that directly relates to the descriptors for daily activities and mobility.
I rang Capita to check if they had received the extra medical evidence and they said yes but the report by the PH had already been done but it would be scanned and sent to DWP for them to review before they made a decision on PIP award or not.
The PIP report was received by DWP on the 31st October 22.
A few days later I rang DWP for a copy of this PA4 report which I received within 2 days.
I looked through it to see if there were any discrepancies in conjunction with the recording of the actual assessment.
I rang DWP and pointed out the errors and informed them of my change in meds.
I was told that a case manager was looking through my claim. I was informed by text on the 31st October that I would hear by letter within 8 weeks of their decision to award PIP or not.
I received a call from DWP asking if I was still in hospital after my shoulder surgery, I said no as I was in as a day case. They assumed I was still in hospital. The lady dealing with my case said she will make me decision in the next few days and will let me know. If I disagreed with the award than I could appeal.
On the 10th November, 2 days after the call from my case manager O got a text saying I had been awarded PIP and would hear within 14 days explaining the award and points scored. Any award would be back dated to the date of my claim on 22/8/22.
It’s taken roughly 12 weeks to get my PIP claim to be processed but still waiting for the letter and PIP payment to start.
Good luck anyone applying for PIP. Feel free to ask for anymore info.
I want to thank everyone and this fantastic resource on this B&W website that has helped me immensely, although you have to put in the work to get the best out of this benefit.

Hi Family man!
Thank you for sharing the details of your PIP journey, it is always interesting to know about timescales. For you, it seems reasonably quick! I'm glad that the process hasn't been too arduous and of course that you have been successful. It's good to know that you found our website helpful.
I would suggest that if you don't hear from DWP after 3 weeks chase them up for your award notice. Check your bank balance too! Yes, you should get a back dated award commencing from the day you made the initial phone call to start your claim.
Depending on your circumstances, gaining PIP can sometimes unlock other benefits. For example if you have someone looking after you they may be able to claim Carer's Allowance. It is often worthwhile getting a benefits check with a local advice agency to ensure that you are getting all you are entitled to.
Once again well done.

I wish I was that lucky, I have been fighting to get my husband PIP since December 2021! It is due in court for tribunal at the end of this month.
Glad you have got sorted. I must admit I have hated this process!
take care

Wow, amazing. Well done, it is so nice to hear from people when the system does actually work. Hope you manage a decent time period before having to start over.

I received my PA4 report which in some parts was incorrect so I called DWP and advised them of this and I wanted it noting. They advised me to wait until my PIP award letter came so you can challenge anything that was not correct. However, After your advice from you, I rang DWP for an update on my claim. They advised me that had been warded PIPS. Yay! Enchanted rate for daily and standard rate for mobility. I was so happy. The call handler was very helpful and said I should get payment the following week and then 4 weekly thereafter. This was great news and extremely quick compared to others on this site that have waited longer. The claim is to run until 2025!
It definitely pays to take time collecting as much medical evidence as you can when sending in your first pips form so they have all the information at hand especially prior to the professional assessment by phone.
Thank you all again and for the invaluable information and experiences shared on this fantastic website. Good luck to you all.
