Blue badge was created by Coventry Fibro Support Group
Hi a friend of mine completed her PIP form and returned it in February. Her blue badge is up for renewal but the local council will not issue her another one as her PIP ends at the end of December.
Is there anything she can do and if so what is the best plan of action for her.
Thanks

Hi Coventry Fibro Support Group
A Blue Badge isn't awarded just because you get sufficient mobility award for PIP. You can apply for the BB separately. If you get the appropriate PIP mobility award, or DLA or equivalent benefits you can just tick the 'I have PIP box' and sign the form, otherwise you will have to fill out the entire form, which can often be done online or using the paper version.
It may be tedious but if you try and persuade the Council to provide a BB based on PIP mobility, which I think they have to do, they will probably just award BB until end of PIP, and then you will have to pay again to get another BB and so on.
You may wish to ring DWP to get a progress report on the PIP renewal. I find giving them a 'nudge' every now and again makes sure that the renewal isn't left festering at the bottom of a pile of documents being forgotten!
I hope this helps.

I only have the ‘low mobility’ DLA. Am 75 next month so no chance of getting a higher rate. I get high care DLA though. My GP helps me with the Blue Badge forms. I do not own a car any more but use it when I stay with my son who has a car.

Hi. Not the same I appreciate, but my GP wrote me a support letter to enable me to get a Bus Pass, prior to me receiving any mobility components. Your friend’s GP could maybe state the mobility difficulties and say that they are lifelong and unlikely to improve (or whatever the particular circumstances here). I think I had to pay.
As far as I can recall there is an option for this on the Blue Badge Application form.

Hi Angel
You are correct, you can get a blue badge with the help of your doctor, you do not need to be in receipt of the mobility component of PIP.
