The initial phone appointment for UC was very straight forward. I also tried to prepare but found they just checked the basics of what I had filled out online. If I remember correctly, when I said I have a fit note and. a long term health condition that was not much else to discuss.
They said I would need to fill out a UC50 form. Once I was sent the form, I filled out a PDF version of the UC50 and submitted that with evidence. I found the UC50 easier to fill out than the PIP online application.
If you need help with your UC claim then I would recommend calling Citizens Advice Bureau helpline. They have a dedicated national helpline for UC and I found it very helpful to answers questions like this. You can call them as many times as you like up to your first payment.
Then when you have been sent your UC50 you can contact your local Citizen Advice Burea. My CAB was able to run through the form with me and review my answers. If you have trouble filling the form in, they may even fill in the form for you with your input. I found their service really helpful.
