Residential to Supported Living question

More

Hello - I care for a severely disabled person who I also act as Deputy for. I am a bit worried as she is moving from a residential care home arrangement to Supported Living (initially in the same accommodation). She gets £258 every 4 weeks for PIP which is just the higher mobility allowance. I believe this would then change to Enhanced daily living award? Is that correct? Is it in addition to the HMA?
thankyou

Hi Saz

The first question I would ask you, does your disabled person have a care plan? I work for a housing association and I have come across numerous residents who have moved from a residential care home to supported living who have had issues with claiming the housing element/rent.

If your severely disabled lady qualified for enhanced daily living but did not receive it due to being in a residential care home then she would be entitled to the enhanced component, once she moves into supported living, but it would depend on how it is funded.

I am not sure what a HMA is.

thnx Gary - HMA = higher mobility allowance

yes i am in the process of getting hold of her care plan

am i right in thinking that if a severely disabled person is in residential care then they are NOT eligible for the £92.40 daily living amount?

i was given an email address for PIP as: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
but when i wrote to that email it got bounced back. can u tell me if i mis-spelled it pls?

many thnx !

Hi saz

The answer is not straight forward as it depends on whether or not your lady is self-funding, if she is self-funding then she would be eligible to the daily living component, if she is not self-funding then she would not be eligible for the daily living component of PIP.

I was talking to a local authority last week to find out how many hours of support is required, to say someone lives in supported accommodation and the answer was it is not the number of hours but whether the scheme is designated as supported housing by the local authority.

I do not have an email address for PIP, the best time to phone DWP is first thing in the morning, you usually have a 20 min wait if you phone mid day you usually have to wait over an hour, I usually phone then do something else such as writing reports whilst waiting on the phone. www.gov.uk/disability-benefits-helpline
