Hi mrs doyle

The short answer is ...... No

When you reach state pension age, your ESA will stop and any disability premiums you receive.

I take it from your post that you do not live alone as you did not mention SDP, if you did receive a SDP then that could carry over if you claimed GPC.

You can apply up to four months before the date from which you want to start getting Pension Credit. The Pension Credit qualifying age is gradually increasing in line with the increase in women’s State Pension age. The maximum period that your Pension Credit claim can be backdated is three months. If you want Pension Credit to start from a past or future date, you need to tell The Pension Service when you apply. www.gov.uk/pension-credit

Hi Gary,I do live alone, with no carer etc.The IR ESA is listed as;living expenses £77.00,extra money because of the disability income guarantee,(same as enhanced disability premium I believe) £17.75, extra money because you are in the support group £40.60.Total £135.35 per week.Would this make any difference ?,thanks Gary.

Hi mrs doyle

From the information you have given, it sounds that you have a Severe Disability Premium (SDP) missing, you say that you live alone and have no carer, as you are in receipt of PIP standard Daily Living and in receipt of IR ESA you should also have an extra premium called Severe Disability Premium (SDP) worth an extra £69.40 per week.

If what I have written is correct contact ESA enquirey line 0800 169 0310 and tell them what I have told you, you should get the SDP backdated to when the daily living component of PIP was awarded.

To answer your original question, you should apply for your state Pension up to 4 months before you reach state pension age, also apply for pension credit 3 months before you retire, inform pension credit that you are in receipt of the daily living component of PIP and that you live alone and no one claims carers allowance for you. You will then get an extra SDP when they calculate your entitlement.
