Housing Benefit when moving home was created by otterysteve
Hello
I am hoping to move home, staying in the same council area that currrently pays my Housing Benefit.
I am in receipt of ESA in the Support Group. I think I can move within the same HB area that I now live in without being forced onto UC. But I am not sure if this still applies.
Can anyone definitively tell me that I can move home within the same area of the council that pays my current Housing Benefit, just inform the council of my move, provide proof of rent etc, and remain on ESA, so therefore NOT being forced to claim UC please?
Thanks.
Any other advice in this process would be much appreciated.

Hi otterysteve

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum

You are correct, if you are moving within the same local authority then you can stay on legacy benefits, you will need to inform DWP of a change of address and local authority HB and CT department of your change of address and rent.
