ESA Work Program & UC? was created by clearwater
Hi, a few years ago there was the ESA IR LCWRA work program which was 2 years with a Work coach does UC have the same/similar?

I seem to recall once one had completed the work program wouldn't/couldn't be asked to do it again.

Hi clearwater

I do remember the work program and DWP are talking about bringing it back, I do not recall how it worked.

Your post is a bit confusing as you state ESA IR LCWRA work program, ESA IR is legacy benefit whereas LCWRA is UC.

Yes Gary my wording was confusing

I meant mandatory ESA IR WRAG work program lasting 104 weeks 2 years when in the Work group (not support group, iirc this was 2016 -2018 ish

Does UC have a similar/same program?

Some info about ESA legacy Work Program,

my question is now does UC at present have a similar program?

ESA72
Limited capability for work and
limited capability for work related activity

2 groups

1. Support group
It has been determined you have or can be treated as having limited
capability for work related activity and you have been placed in the
support group.
This means you have demonstrated a severe level of physical or mental
limitations or have a terminal illness. You are not required to take part in
any work-related activity.
You can volunteer to work with a specialist Personal Adviser or Job
Broker who will support and encourage you to carry out reasonable
steps to manage your illness or disability and undertake relevant activity
which will help you move towards work.

2. Work related activity group
It has been determined you do not have or cannot be treated as having
limited capability for work related activity and you have been placed in
the work related activity group.
This means that with the support and encouragement of a specialist
Personal Adviser or Job Broker you will be encouraged to carry out
reasonable steps to manage your illness or disability and undertake
relevant activity which will help you move towards work.

people in the WRAG (group) were put on the 2-year work mandatory program, run by various Work Programme Providers which differed from what region of the country you were in. You had was a work coach type person, this was not the DWP.

Also it was stated at the time once you had been on the 2 y Work Program you could not be made to go on again in the future

Hi clearwater

I was at a meeting with the DWP a few weeks ago, and there was talk about bringing back a work program but had no further details.

You will probably hear in B&W free newsletter if it is brought back.

Hi clearwater

Thank you for the information, WRAG and Support groups relate to legacy benefits.

Under the new system (UC) the groups are now called LCW and LCWRA, you do not get any extra premiums if you are in the LCW group, the premiums were abolished from April 2017 unless protected.

There is talk of bringing back work programs but I have not seen any information yet. I have seen a number of posts in the forum where members have been invited to see a workcoach.
