My friend had recently put a claim in for her really bad ulcerative colitis but got 0 points, so she didn't know she could ask for a MR. I told her to do this which she has. She suffers really bad with it and is in constant pain and is really struggling at work due to her needing to drop everything she's doing to go to the toilet.

Some mornings she's late as she sets off for work then needs to turn back home.

Her work isn't been very supportive of her condition I.e helping her out with lower hours ect ( due to ignorance of listening to hownthis condition affects her)

She is only in her 30s and gets really upset of what this condition is limiting her as she just wants to try to be as normal as possible althoughit really makes her every day life though. This gives get great anxiety and depression too.

If anyone else suffers from this I would be greatful for any information on how to word the MR.

Thanks

Hi Roch82

I hope that a member of the forum may have experience of this.

I will say to you, what I have said to many others, it is not the specific condition per se that matters, but how much if affects a person's daily living and/or mobility. Two people can have the same condition, and one person will get an award and another won't. Sometimes that is down to the difference in the severity of a condition, and sometimes it is just how they have described their symptoms against the specific PIP criteria. (And, of course, there is always a bit of luck and a nice assessor).

Has your friend got the assessor's report (PA4)? If she hasn't, she should ring and ask for it. It's hard to put in for an MR if you don't have an idea of their thinking. If she got zero points, it could just be an unsympathetic assessor, but she may not have explained her bowel issues effectively - because `i would have expected her to score something there is nowhere else. I do know people with ulcerative colitis, which can limit their social life, leading to problems with communication and, like your friend, anxiety and depression. She would do as well to pay the subs here and go through the guide and see if she answered every question thoroughly, particularly when it comes to doing something reliably and safely when she is in constant pain. And when looking at her driving to work - the assessors are supposed to look at the entire ability to travel, and I suspect your friend is limited because she wouldn't choose to use public transport and be caught short.
