UC50 - Consent to notify your GP of outcome of WCA

Hello,

I'm just wondering if there is any guidance for how to answer the question - Consent to Notify your GP of the outcome of the WCA - when completing UC50? I can't see it in the official guide or in the forum searches I've done. The question is between 'Other Information' and 'Declaration'.

In the blurb on the form it says it will be helpful to your doctor as it will tell them when they no longer need to provide you with a Fit note.

It also says it won't affect your claim if you don't agree.

I might be being cynical but surely it is between a person and their dr whether they issue fit notes? Or is it meaning that if found limited capability for WRA or Work then the dr no longer needs to issue fit notes?

Apologies for second guessing but I don't trust the motives behind anything the DWP or their agents ask!

Grateful for any advice, thank you, Inge

Hi Ingericks

Thank you for your question, I do not remember seeing this question asked before.

On page 111 on wards it discusses the topic but the guide does not give you guidance on how to answer the question. We have heard of the DWP writing to Dr's asking them not to issue fit notes as claimant has been found fit for work, but as you say it is between the claimant and their doctor if a fit note should be issued.

Most claimants tick yes as they believe it will help with their claim, DWP will contact very few claimants Dr's.

If you have supporting documents then you do not need DWP to contact your Dr, especially nowadays when you very seldom see the same Dr.

We will leave your question open for fellow members to comment on.

Dear Gary, thank you for your reply and advice.

It's a weird question as it's separate to the question of giving consent for DWP to contact your Dr for evidence and is solely about consent to tell the Dr the outcome of the WCA. Maybe it's a recent addition......

If someone is found fit for work and the Dr keeps issuing fit notes saying you're unfit for work, I wonder whose stance wins? I'd be interested if anyone has been in this position before.

Thanks!

Your GP can continue to issue Fit Notes, an employer can accept these as proof of you being unable to work but the DWP will no longer accept them as proof you cannot work in regard to benefits.

So, having been moved back to the Work Group following a failed WCA a new Fit Note will not be accepted as reason to take you back out of the group unless it shows a deterioration from when you were assessed, or a new condition likely to result in an LCW award or better.
