I get Income-related ESA alongside PIP. I turned 60 earlier this year and I am due a small workplace pension. (about £600 a year with a lump sum 3 time that) I didn't understand the pension paperwork when it came in July and ignored it but today got an urgent letter from them asking me to get in touch to arrange payment. I know that I will lose ESA pound for pound and so I won't benefit from the pension.
I am worried though that when I inform ESA they will see the change in circumstances (getting a pension) as a change in circumstances and move me over to Universal Credit. I don't want to move to Universal Credit until I have to. It might be relevant that I live in Truro which is a pilot area for ESA to UC, although they have not contacted me.
I suppose I could just not provide paperwork for the pension and therefore not get the money and not have to speak to ESA. What do people think?
No it will not trigger a UC claim, as you rightly state as you are on IR ESA then any pension you receive will be taken £ for £. If you receive £600 pa then you will loose approx £11.50 pw from your IR ESA.
