Moving home was created by gaz111
Hello,

I am currently on ESA ( income related ) and PiP high rate care. I get the severe disability premium on my ESA.

My question is, I may be moving to another flat soon, about half a mile from where I currently am and it is in the same London borough. Will I be forced to claim UC if I move? Or will I be able to remain on ESA and keep my current benefit amount? If I am moved onto UC due to moving then I will probably lose the severe disability component.

Many thanks

Gaz

Hi gaz111

If you move within the same local authority then you can stay on legacy benefits, you do not need to claim UC, not at this moment in time, the government has push back to 2028 claimants who will need to apply for UC from legacy benefits.

If you moved to another local authority and you did not need to claim help towards your rent then you can still continue with your legacy benefits, if you needed to claim help with your housing costs then you would have to apply for the housing element not housing benefit, but as you have stated you are moving within the same local authority then you will not be affected, you just need to let relevant departments know you have moved.

Thank you Gary. I was worried about that but I am staying within the same Borough.

So will my money stay at the same amount? I just ring up when I move and change my address?

Many thanks

Hi gaz111

Yes, your money will stay the same. Yes, ring and tell them about your change of address and then follow it up with a letter.
