Successful Pension Credit for Dad was created by libran1962
Dear all
Great news my 77 yr old dad has been awarded both elements of PC worth £48.82 a week along with other benefits that come along with it.He is over the moon that he can now get his new dentures free plus it has been backdated to July so he should have over £1000 in back pay.The letter does not say when this will be or anything about the £325 second cost of living payment which he should now get too.
He lost PC when we lost Mam in May and when I applied for PC again after he was awarded DlA middle care the deadline of 20 Nov went by.Following kind advice on here I contacted Dad’s MP who was brilliant and only 12 days or so later we have received his award letter.
Please can I ask would he now be entitled to single persons severe disability payment? He lives alone is 77 has Alzheimer’s COPD and Angina among other things. He gets DLA high rate mobility and DLA middle care
Once again thank you so much for the advice
Kind regards
S

Hi libran1962

Congratulations on getting you dad Pension Credit (GPC) GPC is a qualifying benefit, therefore he should now also get a free TV licence.

I believe reading your post that your father already receives SDP in with his GPC.

The Severe Disability Payment should be paid in with his GPC, you need to check how his GPC is made up. Usually you get a single allowance of £182.60 pw, if you get PIP daily living and live on your own and no one claims carers allowance then you will get an additional allowance called a SDP worth £69.40 pw giving a total allowance of £252.00 pw minus any pensions you receive such as State Pension £185.15 and any private pensions.

Can identify with the dentures. Am 75 on the 28th. Got some new dentures myself earlier this year! Gives one so much more self confidence. Horrid when they don't fit properly. I treated myself to a new partial plate. Got the flexi dentures. \o/ woohoo! Not cheap though.

Dear Gary
Thanks so much,Dad was over the moon.it’s great that he gets a free tv licence too,I didnt know that.
The letter doesn't mention SDP anywhere but what it does say is PC Guarantee Credit £34.36 per week and PC Savings Crdit £14.48 per week making £48.84
He has a private pension of £121.67 per month and a state pension of £189.57 per week.He gets DLA mobility high and DLA care middle rate and no one gets caters allowance.
Thank you so much for the invaluable help
Kindest regard

Hi libran1962

Your father should get a severe disability premium in with his PC guarantee worth £69.40 pw providing he lives on his own and no one claims carers allowance for looking after him.
