First time renting and UC was created by Sick&Tired
Hi,
I have just started a new tenancy with a housing association. It is in the same area. I have previously been living in a rent free property on a family member's land.
I currently receive ESA support group and PIP enhanced daily living and standard mobility.
If I claim UC for the rent will I have to fill in the dreaded UC50 and have an assessment?
I understand that part of my current ESA payment is CB as I get a p60(?) Statement every April telling me that a proportion of my benefit is taxable (although well under the tax paying threshold).
If I have to complete a UC50 I will probably wait until January to start the claim so that Christmas doesn't cause delays in the process.
Also, will I have to attend the Job Center for appointments?
It is all rather daunting.
Thanks for any advice.

Hi joolijoo

Thank you for your post, it is vitally important that you make a claim for UC before your ESA ends, the same goes for mixed aged couples, it is vitally important to apply for UC before the eldest of a couple reaches state pension age.

If there is even one day between your ESA stopping and claiming UC then you will not get automatically placed in the LCWRA group, you will have to go through the assessment phase again resulting a loss of over £1k.

Seek advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation before you do anything; advicelocal.uk .
