Video assessment was created by Mjke
A friend has been sent an appoitment for a video assessment for his much-delayed PIP review. He is very stressed out about this, though he gets stressed with face-to-face meetings, too. His lon-term health issues are mental-health-related but since his last face-to-face a few years ago, he suffered a stroke (during the pandemic). Any advice about how he should prepare for the video assessment or whether he can/should ask for a face-to-face one would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advice. Mjke

Hi Mjke
Have a look at the PIP Guide to Claims and Reviews and look at the section on assessments. Whether he should ask for a different type of assessment is up to him. They are still only doing a limited number of face-to-face assessments - and if he requests that, he may find that he has to travel a long way for one. He may want to ask for a telephone assessment or even ask for a paper-based assessment. The DWP does not have to agree to a change, but he can ask and explain why he wants it.

Thank you for your reply. Just to be clear, if he decides to ask for a different type of assessment to be considered, do we have to contact DWP directly rather than Capita? Thanks, Mjke

Hi Mjke
Your friend needs to contact Capita as the appointment is with them.
