LCWRA UC Higher Rate Backpay? was created by bm979
Hi there.
Back in January 2022 after sending in fit notes whilst claiming UC, I filled out and returned the UC50 forms.
I was then declared LCWRA in September 2022.
All of this time I have been receiving £334.91 UC.
The other week I looked online and saw there is an upper rate extra amount of £354.28 which is issued if you are in the LCWRA group.
Nobody at UC told me about this, and after calling them this week I was told my next UC payment would include the higher rate.
My question is this though, am I entitled to backpay of the higher rate? And if so, when would that apply?
I see some people talk about 13 weeks assessment phase, does that count from when I was declared LCWRA?
(There are a few gaps in my fit notes, but from 25th August until the decision was made in September, I am covered.)
Thanks for your help, this is all quite confusing.

Hi bm979
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum
When you apply for WCA the assessment period starts from when you hand in a fit note uless you are transfering from legacy ESA support group, this period as you mentioned is 13 weeks which means that if you are successful with your WCA and placed in the support/LCWRA group it should be put in payment from the 14th week.
You state that there are a few gaps in your fit notes which may cause you problems, I would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation; advicelocal.uk

Thanks for your quick reply, very much appreciated.
I will wait and see what my first payment brings, maybe they add the backdated pay to that.
Failing that I shall contact them for further information.
