hi you have helped me so much in the past im hoping you can help my friend. He has a Brain Tumour that cannot be operated on, his chemo & radiotherapy are not shrinking the Tumour. He has children and has no income coming in. His Tumour is Terminal and will kill him its just a matter of how long he has left.

He has been told by someone he wont be entitled to anything due to having savings , but im Sure ESA is not means tested for 12 months and neither is PIP.

He is on the highest and most powerful of treatment, he has 2 sessions left & then they will stop treatment as its not having any affect on the brain tumour.

SURELY HE MUST BE ENTITLED TO ESA & PIP . PLEASE ADVISE ON EVERYTHING HE IS ENTITLED TO, ITS HEART BREAKING WATCHING A LIFELONG FRIEND DIE IN FRONT OF YOU.

MANY THANKS

Hi Dylanc

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I don't know whether he is capable of contacting the DWP or if someone can do it on his behalf. If your friend has less than six months to live, he should be fast-tracked for any benefits he is entitled to. If he has no income at the current time, it would be best to talk to a welfare advisor. He might want to use Macmillan - who are best able to help people in his position. Details attached www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-...fits-and-your-rights -

For PIP - he needs to start the claim on the phone, and then a doctor will fill in form DS1500. He won't be assessed, and the money should come through quickly. PIP is not means tested. I have given a link to the government website www.gov.uk/pip/claiming-pip-if-youre-terminally-ill.

For ESA - like PIP he should be able to claim under special rules, and his claim should be fast-tracked. If he has more than 16,000 in savings, he won't be eligible. If he has savings £6000 - £16000, the amount he would be eligible for is reduced.

Hi DYLANC

Just to quantify BIS's post,

if your friend has over £16k in savings they would not be able to claim any means tested benefits, if they claimed NS ESA and PIP, these are not means tested benefits and therefore your friend is able to claim them if they qualify.
