Attendance Allowance was created by Freddysunshine
Advice please.
I would like to claim Attendance Allowance. I have GAD (Generalised Anxiety Disorder), which was diagnosed last year. This does have a real impact on my life, but looking at the Attendance Allowance questions, I'm not sure how GAD fits in. Apart from the diagnosis, I don't have a lot of evidence, but can give lots of examples. I believe that I'm entitled to it, but don't know how to get past the 1st hurdle of the form. I don't get to talk to my G.P, it's impossible apart from ordering repeat prescriptions. Any advice appreciated.

Hi Freddysunshine
Have a look at the information we have on applying for AA benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/aa and the government notes on how to fill out the form.

I know it sounds easy, but try not to overthink it. You say it has seriously impacted your life, and you need to get that over to them on your form. You can always add additional pages if needed- especially as you say you have many examples. Don't assume that the person reading your form will have any knowledge of GAD.
So take one question at a time. For example - Help with your care needs during the day. You may want to tick the box "I have difficulty in motivating myself to get out of bed'. If this were the case, you would want to put in the reason why it is difficult, what you experience and how it disrupts your life if you can't get up. Don't think - how does GAD fit the form? You need to look at the questions and, keeping each one in mind, describe why something is challenging or impossible with your medical difficulties.

If you have a partner or family member who can also speak to how GAD has impacted you, get them to write a letter.
