Thankyou all.
Thanks for your interest and friendliness. That 's heartwarming.
Actually I wasn't clear it seems.
I have successfully moved abroad and got my ESA continued. That was in 2015.
And yes the warmth does help! As does the peace and wildness.
I d been afraid of asking to do it . My first attempt met with someone on the end of the phone telling me 'of course the government wouldn't pay for me to live in france- who did I think I was' sort of energy , but in the end I spoke to really helpful people in the relevant offices and it went through very smoothly.
Before Brexit of course....
My questions are 1) about the mechanism of asking for a Proof of Benefit letter.
If one is abroad one can't just fill in a form online but need to call the benefit office.
As I have heard nothing for 7 years, (I receive no update annual letter etc and no requests for reassessment) BUT I do receive my ESA, I am wondering if somehow I've fallen into a fortunate forgotten file. Which is cool except I'm now afraid that if I raise my head and ask for something I could trigger a looking into my situation....and that could lead to re-assessment.
2nd question : Anyone know if it is common for people living abroad and in the support group to just be left alone like this In which case I'll feel safer about calling up for the Proof of Benefit letter.
Thanks and warm wishes to everyone
Sophie

Thanks all for interest and encouragement.
In fact I wasn't clear enough -
I succeeded in 2015 to get ESA abroad. I continue to receive it. I m in the 'contribution based' support group box.
It wasn't too hard. I had to get through some negative reactions from the staff in the first line of asking for it - but once I got to the department pusscatsmum mentioned they were very understanding and efficient.
Since that time I've been really fortunate - I've never heard from them. No demand for re-assessement nor the annual update letter re amount of ESA.
My question is about the mechanism of calling my benefit office now to ask for a Proof of Benefit letter.
If you live abroad you have to call into the benefit office rather than simply requesting a Proof Letter online.
I m afraid that this could trigger an investigation into my situation. That they'll look up my file and see I ve been sent nothing for 7 years. I can't face a third round of re assessment and all it involves.
So I m wondering 1) if anyone knows if it is normal that they just don't bother with support group people abroad in which case I d feel safer asking for this Proof letter.
2) If anyone knows about the what happens when one calls up for the Proof of benefit letter.
Thanks
Warm wishes
Sophie

Hi Sophie
If you want a proof of benefits letter - you have no choice but to ring and request it. Will it trigger interest in your case? No one can say. You could be lucky, and your request will just be fulfilled, or they could look further.
I don't think it is necessarily because you are abroad that you have not had any contact. The DWP has a large backlog of ESOL cases and reviews, so many people are finding they are not hearing from the DWP for a long time.

Thanks Again Gary.
Wasnt that I didnt heed your first post. Just that if you live outside Britain and dont have a UK postcode you need to call in.
