PIP consultation was created by bassettsfarm
Hello,I’ve been a member for many years, but haven’t posted in a long time. I have been receiving PIP for around 10 years. I’ve had to go to tribunal a couple of times, and received an award without tribunal once. My award has been carrying over due to the pandemic, but finally I have been given an appointment for a consultation. It’s for a telephone consultation. Although in one way I am relieved, as I hate leaving the house, I am wondering if it might go against me, as I won’t be so upset and anxious being at home. I’ve never had a telephone assessment before, I’m wondering if any of you can advise me about what they’re like, and if they are successful? I’m dreading this whole process again. Any info will help. Thank you. Amanda x

To prepare yourself for the review, read our latest guide and get yourself prepared;

If you have a look at our PIP guide at the link below you will see that there are a number of pages which include advice on telephone assessments. Yes, a lot of the questions are those that would have been asked if you had a face to face assessment.

- Write yourself a bullet point list of any particular points you want to get over, so you have it by you during the assessment, tick them as you cover them during the assessment.
- have paper and pens to hand to make any notes such as the assessor's name, date, time
- make sure you are seated in a comfortable chair, you are going to be there a while and at table to make notes
- if you can't hear or understand what is being asked then ask them to repeat the question
- don’t let the assessor rush you and get you flustered.
- don't forget to have a glass of water if needed so you don't get a dry throat and lose your voice!

You can ask for a copy of the assessor's report called a PA4 a couple of days after the interview.

Hi Amanda, I would, as well as Gordon's very sound advice, recruit a friend if you can to sit with you. This should boost your confidence and they can see if eg you are so tired you need a break. Also ASAP Please call and ask the assessment provider for a recording. Also take one yourself without mentioning the fact; this is perfectly legal for your own use. Dealing with the private recording is something your supporter can see to.
And never be tempted to take eg extra painkillers or calming meds, they should see you just how you are and not have any excuse for alleging you are 'not that bad'.
Best wishes, Denby

Thank you, that’s such good advice. I was actually thinking I should take extra medication to calm me down, but now see the sense in not doing so. Thank you for taking the time to reply x
