Good morning,
I have just subscribed and I am already very impressed by this website. It is such a useful resource. I wish I had known about it sooner!
I am my partners carer and just have a quick question about the PIP review process.
Yesterday we received the dreaded letter and review form for her PIP claim. We knew it would be coming soon but it is still very stressful.
We just wanted to know how hard it is to get an extension on the deadline to send the form back to the DWP? They have given us four weeks but that was dated from about a week before we received the letter. Also, with my partners autism, it takes some time to process everything. As I am the one who will be helping fill the form in, I need to find time to fit this into a busy schedule.
Do we need to build a strong case for an extension? And if we are able to get an extension, does anyone know how long we can expect?

There is no need for you to make a 'strong' case at all. Just ring up and ask for an extension - due to late delivery, and you will be given a two-week extension.
Some people have found they need to ring up for a second extension - but this is not automatically given - so if you still struggle to complete the form on time - do not leave it until the last minute to contact them. It is better to send in a form that is incomplete with a note saying why than to send in a form late and jeopardise a claim.

I have another quick question but please tell me if I need to start a new topic for this.
I just wanted to know if assessments are still being carried out over the phone or have they now returned to face to face?

No, you don't need to start a new topic.
Face-to-face assessments have started again at assessment centres but on a very limited basis. No assessments are being carried out in people's homes.
The majority of assessments are telephone assessments, though some people are now being given video assessments.
