PIP review confusion - admin error? was created by Dottie
In March 2021 I was awarded Enhanced Mobility on PIP after going to appeal. They did a paper based appeal after I was too unwell to attendand there we found no reason to further appeal the outcome.

The award came with a review date in mid-February 2023 and it had the same wording as any other award letter - they'll be in touch 3 months before with forms etc. It was backdated from mid-February 2020, so it was a 3 year award.

I was aware of the backlogs in reviewing cases and thought it might have been extended, especially as I hadn't received anything from them from throughout November-January but on January 17th my mum called to find out what was going on.

We've had two different answers though -
The first person she spoke to via the enquiry line said that my case was not going to review, would be effectively cancelled and I would have to reapply. Annoying, but okay, it needed to be done so my mum called the new claims line.
They couldn't create a new claim because my current claim is active and isn't up for review/renewal/cancellation, she would have to call the enquiries line again. So she did.
This 3rd person then said that it had an 'expected review date' (I think?) but didn't have a set date and nothing was really happening with it. Like it wasn't set to do anything at all. They then said they would send out review forms but if anything happened, like motability were informed my claim was over or the money stopped etc, then she was to call back.

It's now been nearly 3 weeks since those conversations took place and we haven't received anything. I don't know whether to chase it up or let them figure it out, because obviously I'd prefer not to go through the review. Nothing has changed with regards to my mobility needs and it probably sounds silly but I'm terrified of not having a car again, it's truly saved me in a way I never imagined.

I'm just not sure what's going on, I don't know which one of the advisors to believe either. I just wondered if this has happened before (whenever I search about it I just get page after page of claim review assistance) or just how best to go about it.

Thanks!

Hi Dottie

As your award was via a tribunal then you need to contact PIP before the end date, usually 6 months to give a bit of wriggle room.

DWP do not usually contact claimants who go to tribunal, the onus is on the claimant to make a new claim, but as always there is a but, I have come across numerous claimants who had won their award and been sent a review form by the DWP towards the end of their claim.

The problem you have is if you leave it too late then your claim may end before you receive a new claims/review form. I would check the date when your award was awarded to then chase DWP for a new claims form, if you get no joy from the person you first speak to, ask to speak to their line manager.

Hi, I was awarded my PIP following a tribunal end of November 2020 following my claim in July 2019, HA/MR. I was awarded for 3 years and received my review papers end December and have just returned them with further up to date medical evidence. I received a text yesterday from DWP to confirm receipt and will be reviewing. Hope this helps.
