DWP contacting your GP when you said no was created by johnnyo
If you have ticked the not ok to contact your GP on your renewal form beware they are doing it and stating they have your consent. I only found out about it as my GP had a query with my address and mentioned the form, when I asked if it stated I consented they said yes. So how many times is this happening and the DWP riding roughshot over claimants wishes, I was livid and called assessment services who after some excuses admitted I had indeed ticked the box.....they will make a note of it they said...my GP had already filled it in and it was ready to go back! If you are one of the people who check this box and are due an assessment then call your doctor's and put a note on the system not to fill the form as no consent or to call you. Oh by the way the lady on the phone at DWP tried to fit me in a slot they had free for an assesment next week ...

Hi johnnyo
I'm sorry this happened to you. Your advice about people telling their GP is a good one.

I found out just today that this has happened to me.
I was contacting my GP for a health issue, i.e. osteoarthritis, knee pain and swelling, when I discovered a note on my file that said -
- telephone call / Dr. ./ appointment with Capita on 19th January 2023.
I had ticked NO to this, I double checked to be certain and yes I had. I almost thought I had for a sec. I’m so cross. But it’s obviously too late now. What’s the point in complaining to DWP when it’s already happened.
My renewal claim had been in since 26th October 2021. So far nothing from DWP.
Who know what will come next!

Hi Moobear
I'm disturbed to hear that it has happened to you too. It's a mistake that shouldn't happen.

Shouldn't the GP's surgery check for authorization and patient consent before disclosing any information to any third party including the DWP? This sort of disclosure contravenes data protection laws. Unless the DWP is not being entirely truthful to GPs.

You can put in a complaint about this if it has happened to you.
Often it is a duty doctor in a big practice, whoever is on that day, that fills in DWP forms, and this means it may not be your own GP. This means they may not know you as well and are just using your health records to go on to describe your medical problems. This can further disadvantage your claim and should not be allowed to happen either.
