So I am being harassed by neighbours due to being transgender and having disability..one of the organisations have referred me to housing association/ organisation who would house me outside of the area/borough. Unfortunately I am on Contribution based ESA and housing benefit. And now I know that this will come as income and I would need universal credit as a housing component. I am on CB ESA and housing benefit. How much or if all of my CB ESA wil be 'eaten' by universal credit?

Hi Agis

When working out your UC, all of your CB ESA will be taken into account, as you are in the support group when you apply for UC you should get the LCWRA straight away. Quite often claimants are told they need a fit note but this is not true. You may get reassessed shortly after applying but until a decision has been made you are entitled to the LCWRA element. seek advice from your Welfare Right Organisation.

Dear Gary, I do realise that. At the same time I would like to know if they would use my CB ESA as my income and would that go towards me paying rent. And would I get some and how much universal credit towards living costs.

Hi Agis

Your CB ESA would be taken into account when DWP work out your UC entitlement.

For UC you get a standard allowance + Housing Element if you pay housing costs + Child Element, if applicable +Carer Element, if applicable + LCWRA if applicable, there are others depending on your circumstances minus any income you have coming in such as CB ESA.

As to how much you will get, I cannot tell you as I do not know your circumstances. To answer that question you will need to seek advice from a Welfare Rights Organisation or use a online benefit calculator: gov.uk/benefits-calculators
