PIP & Universal Credit Health Assessment Advisory Servicde was created by Mis-chief
Greetings ..
I had my PIP telephone interview on Tuesday 14th February; I am told to expect a response in 8 weeks time. The telephone call was booked for 1.01pm but they rang at 2.00 pm. The first person I spoke to introduced himself saying I would have had a phone call to advise me that he would be in attendance on my telephone interview. I had received no notification regarding this matter. I felt obliged to continue with the call because I was not sure how long it would take for me to wait again.
He then introduced me to the person interviewing me and said he would only listen as this would be used for training purposes. At the end of the my telephone interview (which concluded at 3.40pm) he asked a few questions so they could have clarity on my answers.
I also have another telephone interview with Universal credit Health Assessment Advisory Service. I was told to attend an assessment interview in person. I declined when they rang me to remind me of my appointment. I explained that walking is difficult for me. They gave me a telephone number to ring which I had to do before 7.00pm.
I rang and the person answering the telephone was very annoyed with me, for ringing to say I will not be in attendance and would like to book a telephone appointment. He also said the person who gave me the telephone number had no right to say that I could ring them and rebook. He was very put out it had happened. He said it sometimes happens but it felt like we had no right to be able to do this at all.
My question is this not the same body covering the same subject matter? Or is PIP and UC to separate bodies though they all come under the same umbrella. And I have to go through the same questioning again which left me feeling demoralised.

Hi Mis-chief
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum
In answer to your questionboth subject matters come under DWP but they are different, PIP covers disability and how it affects you whereas WCA looks at your disability and how it affects you in a working environment. The descriptors are different although a few do over lap. If you look in the guides tab above, one of the mods, Gordon drew up a comparison spreadsheet.
Health Assessment Advisory Service looks at work capability assessments for both ESA and UC. You need to make a complaint and also get your MP involved, you will be surprised how fast things happen once a MP gets involved. It does seem a bit ridiculous having to involve your MP at such an early stage but the earlier you resolve the issue the less stressed you will get.
The Equality Act 2010 sets out the duty on service providers and those exercising public functions to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. The definition of ‘disability’ in the Act is a physical or mental condition which has a substantial and long-term adverse impact on the person’s ability to do normal day to day activities.
The beneficial effects of medication or treatment should be disregarded – ie the definition refers to how someone would be without their treatment.
Substantial means more than minor or trivial and Long-term means a condition which has lasted 12 months or more, or is expected to last 12 months . The DWP therefore have a legal duty to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, but alas this does not very often happen.
