New Style ESA - contributions required was created by BlueCats
I was on income related ESA and then forced to migrate to UC in October. I may soon be put over the financial limit and have to end my UC but wouldn't I qualify for New style ESA since National Insurance credits will have been made whilst I was on both of these benefits. The gvt website says:

"New Style ESA is a contributory benefit. Normally, this means you may be able to get it if you’ve paid or been credited with enough National Insurance contributions in the 2 full tax years before the year you’re claiming in."

Hi BlueCats

I believe that contribution benefits such as CB ESA and NS ESA pays Class 1 NI Credits which can be used for future NS ESA claims whereas means tested benefits such as IR ESA and UC pays Class 3 Credits which can only be used for a full State Pension.

Gordon will put me right if what I say is incorrect.

If you have more than £16k in savings then all means tested benefits will stop.

Answer to your question is no, you would not qualify for NS ESA as you do not need the qualifying conditions.

Legacy ESA and New Style ESA provide payment of Class 1 NI Credits, UC provides Class 3 which can only be used for the State Pension.

Unfortunately, you appear not to qualify for the payment of NS ESA, there are two Contribution Conditions the second can be satisfied by NI Credits but the first requires at least 26 weeks of NI Contributions in the Tax Tears 2020-21 or 2021-22, which can only be obtained through paid employment.

If you pursue the NS ESA claim and are assessed as having Limited Capability for Work then you can continue to receive the Class 1 Credits., just not payment.
