Worrying pip phone consultation was created by mrs doyle
A few weeks ago I applied online for pip.I spoke to a lady who first of all said "if you are claiming pip now at age 65,this will stop when you are 66 and you will have to claim Attendance Allowance" My reply was,"surely it depends on the length of the award of pip, which in theory could take me way past the age of 66" She said "well normally it stops when you are 66,but it depends on your situation". She then hurried me through lots of questions (I asked her to slow down!) which I expected and was then emailed a link and password set up,to fill in the online "How your disability affects you"form, which I have done. But I have been worried about the "you only get pip till youre 66" opening line,Has any one else had this experience ?

Hi Mrs Doyle
In order to apply for PIP you need to be under the state pension age. www.gov.uk/pip/eligibility. It will continue if it is awarded before then.

One of the eligibility requirements is: "you expect the difficulties to last for at least 12 months from when they started"But she knew that was the case from my date of birth. Also what would happen if a decision is not made before I am 66 (July)

Hi Mrs doyle
I would say she did not know what she was talking about and just trying to bluff you.

Hi mrs doyle
You have to have a condition 3 months before your claim and then 9 months on going, so in total 12 months.
As long as you put in a claim before you reach state pension age then it makes no difference as to how old you are when they make a decision. If it is positive then the award goes back to the date on application form.
This is why we always tell claimants to phone DWP once you have sent off your recorded delivery claim to check that they have eceived the claim and put it on the system, you can then relax until your assessment.
