Hi, I'm hoping you can help me.

I'm currently working through your guide and was hoping you could clarify something for me.

As a result of pudendal neuralgia, I cannot sit without excruciating pain. Additionally, because of chronic knee pain I struggle to stand or walk beyond limited movement about the house. In order for me to take any journey over 10 minutes in the car, I need to rent a campervan and have my partner place a specially adapted mattress in it for me to lie on as she drives.

I know this section is primarily focused on sight, hearing, mental health conditions etc.

Would I be entitled to points as I am reliant on assistance?

Kind regards

Hi Mowgsy7,
Descriptor 1 f gives 12 points if you
"Cannot follow the route of a familiar journey without another person, an assistance dog or an orientation aid."
The scenario you describe suggests that you would need assistance, which can be for sensory impairment but there is nothing that prevents someone in your circumstances being awarded.
However, if you consider Mobility 2
2e. Can stand and then move more than 1 metre but no more than 20 metres, either aided or unaided. 12 points
2f. Cannot, either aided or unaided - (i) stand; or (ii) move more than 1 metre. 12 points

It seems that you would also fit within 2e or maybe 2f. Any 'walking' ( ie any movement up to the 200m threshold.) must be done without severe discomfort, so if you have very high levels of pain, then it is entirely possible that your pain level precludes any form of walking right from the very beginning. Think about safety; so risk of falls, etc repetition across the whole day as required, reasonable time and acceptable standard. (These criteria are explained further in the members guides ) All 4 criteria have to be met. You don't need to meet them for 100% of time, the relevant time frame is for the majority of days.
If DWP award 12 points under either mobility 1 or 2 since this is sufficient to award enhanced rate the law provides that they don't have to consider any more points.

I hope this helps.
Good luck.
