Telephone Assessment was created by Rebecca
My Son, who suffers from severe depression and anxiety as well as awaiting assessment for ADHD which his GP is sure he has put in a claim for PIP.

A couple of days ago he got a call out over the blue from someone saying how are you today before introducing herself as a PIP assessor. She was rude and at times aggressive. One example is she asked if he had a driving licence he said yes but wasn't driving. She replied that he was able to pass a driving test but had ADHD - the implications being that he wouldn't be able to pass a driving test with ADHD. She told him to get his copy of PIP claim paperwork. He happened to be at his sisters home at the time so she said 'oh you're out in the community". My daughter had picked him up in her car, she only lives 5 minutes away from him. Also told him he must surely know what he had written on his claim form. I filled it in for him as he is incapable of doing it himself. This was clearly stated on his form. The whole interview continued in this manner, even when HD told her he was suicidal. I feel very angry at the way this interview was conducted.

Can they just phone unannounced like this? Is there anything he can do as she had obviously doing everything possible to make him feel like a scrounger who wasn't entitled to anything.

Hi Rebecca

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum

You should be given 7 days notice of an assessment taking place, we have had a number of posts recently on the forum where members have been contacted out of the blue.

The first question I would ask you, are you your son's appointee? if you are then contact the DWP to find out if your son had an assessment, if it was an assessment then asked for a copy of the assessors report called a PA4.

That will give you an indication on the outcome of the assessment.

You may also want to raise a formal complaint as to how your son was treated, the call may have been recorded.
