PIP Review Video Assessment was created by Lottie
Hi everyone, I have a review video assessment on Monday. I moved from the South of England to the Midlands last June and I was meant to have a transfer of care for my mental health & a hand injury. (I have been claiming for both of these since May 2018) However, I have been put on several wait lists and thus my care has changed drastically since I was last assessed. I've asked my mental health consultant to write a supporting letter with reference to the descriptors however getting this done is like pulling teeth! I have been asking for it since September 2022. Therefore I don't really have any documentation/evidence and I am worried this will look poorly on me, is there anything else I can provide instead? My conditions have worsened as a result however I do anticpate that once I am receiving the proper care again then they will level out. I am unsure of how to explain this to Capita, I am exceedingly nervous and have never had a video assessment before, so any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Lottie
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum
Quite often Video assessments fail and turn into a telephone assessment, you may want to make your own recording of the assessment whether it is video or telephone, just don't tell the assessor you are recording as they may end the assessment.
If you have a look at our PIP guide at the link below you will see that there are a number of pages which include advice on telephone assessments. Yes, a lot of the questions are those that would have been asked if you had a face to face assessment.

Write yourself a summary as to what has happened to you and the waiting lists you are on since you have moved, explain why you do not yet have any documentary support but will send it in as soon as you have it.
You can then explain this to the assessor.
To prepare yourself for the assessment
1. Record the assessment surreptitiously. (Never trust that there won't be a problem with their equipment!)
2. Have someone with you (if you can).
3. Have a bulleted list of the most important things you want to say. (so you don't forget)
4. Tell the assessor if you're tired or anxious and need a break.
5. If you're feeling confused and didn't hear a question - ask them to repeat it. (It might give you a little time to think about the answer)
6. Be aware of the unexpected question. Nearly everyone gets one - I think it's a deliberate ploy to confuse you or say that you're not depressed because you can remember something from 20 years ago!
7. If you normally take medication and would have taken it before the assessment - do so and tell the assessor.
8. Have some water close by.
Don't forget to contact DWP 48 hours after the assessment and ask for a copy of the assessors report called PA4.
