I was put in the old style ESA Support Group Contributions Based in 2017 until 2027. My Dad has recently died and I will be receiving money from his estate which will be more than £16,000 Will this affect my ESA? If not, do I need to declare it? I recently declared a small pension and received a letter saying, amongst other things, that I need to declare any future savings. I thought Contributions Based ESA, both old and new style, was exempt from savings affecting it. Thanks in advance for your help.
If you are only receiving Contribution Based or New Style ESA then your savings will not affect the payment of your ESA.
As to notifying the DWP? I can't tell you that you do not need to notify the DWP as only they can decide that such a change will not affect your ESA, however, if you are sure that you are not receiving any Income Related benefits then I would be surprised if it was an issue.
