Hi,

Do I have to include that I'm receiving physiotherapy as a treatment in my PIP review? I'm going through the NHS and privately.

Hi Wiggles

It's up to each claimant what they choose to put in their application about their conditions and any subsequent treatment. Only you can decide what to say. If you have an assessment, you make be asked if you're having any treatment and then you would be expected to tell the truth.

Of course! I'm not asking because I want to lie! I just wasn't sure if I have to include it. I have a lot of medical appointments and some I would consider treatments but I wasn't sure if physiotherapy counted as a proper treatment. I should have worded my question differently.

What I meant to ask was I have a condition that I was born with but it won't ever get better, if anything I'll just get worse. The physiotherapy is basically keeping me from getting worse for a longer period of time than if I didn't have the physiotherapy and any improvement I'll have won't change my life drastically or mobility. So is physiotherapy in this case considered a treatment? Because it's not really treating anything.

I think I'm being more clear now. Sorry for any confusion. I'm not always great at explaining myself.

I'm not sure what happened to my reply but it's not come up.

I wasn't clear with my question, sorry.

What I meant was is physiotherapy considered a treatment? It's not making me better or reasonably improving my conditions I was born with. So I'm not sure if this would be considered a treatment. Is there a definition of treatment?

I wrote my first question with a lot of brain fog and fatigue. Sorry about that. Also I don't want to be dishonest! I hope it didn't come across that way!

Hi Wiggles

Your reply won't appear until a mod has approved it, and posts only get approved when there is a mod able to answer your question.

Don't worry about your wording. You didn't come across as trying to be dishonest. You simply asked for clarification.

My answer remains the same - it's up to you whether you want to say or not. I think anyone from the DWP or assessment services will consider physiotherapy a treatment. Plenty of people have treatments that act as 'maintenance' rather than 'cures' and plenty of people have treatments where they don't experience any noticeable improvement. The important thing is to explain why you have physiotherapy and the fact that your condition will not improve because of it. Never put in something like that without explanation or the assessor will make their own assumptions (which could turn out to be wrong!). You can always put an explanation on an additional sheet when you submit your form.

Thank you so much BIS. This makes sense. I hadn't thought of it that way. I'm so thankful for your reply and time.
