ESA3 Form Question (About Time Spent Abroad)

Hi guys!

So my husband is disabled and he's been claiming Income Based ESA, PIP, and Housing Benefit. I'm an immigrant and so very occasionally (4 times in 5 years) we would leave the country to visit my family back home. We would only leave for 3 weeks each time.

I just got my application for permanent leave to remain approved by the home office (yay!) and now my husband is finally eligible for the couple's rate of ESA. After we notified ESA, they sent us an ESA3 form and now I'm pretty stressed out and worried about this question ("have you worked or claimed benefit ... Outside the United Kingdom since you last claimed ESA?"). Should I mention our two short trips abroad since he received an ESA payment while we were away? Or is this supposed to reference extended trips abroad?

Thank you so much for all your help mods!!

Hi sgbd

You have to look at the question in plain English, it states "have you worked or claimed benefit ... Outside the United Kingdom since you last claimed ESA"

First part of the question asks have you worked outside the United Kingdom since your husband was eligible for the couple's rate.
Second part asks have you claimed benefits outside the United Kingdom since you last claimed benefits (eligible for the ESA couples rate).

I think you are reading too much into the question, for peace of mind contact your local Welfare Rights Organisation for clarification; you can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk

Thank you very much. I did feel like I might've been overthinking the whole thing- I can see how it must mean submitting a claim from abroad rather than "receiving" a benefit payment. But I will call!

Again I really appreciate your help!
