Diabetes PIP for preparing food was created by Biddy
Does anyone have any advice on completing PIP question on preparing food for a young adult with type 1 diabetes? I'm wondering if the use of weighing scales that can calculate carbs by food type would negate any help/supervision (I think scales could be 2 points whereas supervision could be 4 points). Thanks

Hi Biddy

Scales might negate the need for help, but it entirely depends on the person and their diabetes. Someone might be able to use the scales, but do they understand how to use them accurately, and do they have the motivation to do so? Do they need to be reminded to use the scales? How well is their diabetes managed? What if they suddenly experience a hypo? They might need to be reminded to eat in the first place. Only you know how the young adult manages their condition. So if they require supervision - say so - don't focus on the scales unless you think they enable them to do all food prep without help.
